EN 1279 - Law 1 March 2007 - Ulmke offer FPC and FPC audit service.

The announcement regarding the legal status of 1279 has been made in the Official Journal of the European Union. The journal confirms that manufacturers of Insulated Glass Units have until the first of March 2007 in which to show compliance with the standard.

What to Do

In the first instance manufacturers must contact BM Trada (Adam Osborn on 01494 569800) or BSI Product Services (Aby Smith on 01442 230442) to arrange a type test to part 2 of the standard (Moisture Vapour Transmission) and to arrange a type test to part 3 of the standard (Gas Concentration and Leakage) if required.

Next manufacturers must make arrangements to implement a factory production control (FPC) system in the factory. The FPC is a simple quality system that requires the manufacturer to make declarations that given tests are carried out as part of day to day production. The purpose of the FPC is to ensure that units manufactured are consistent in terms of quality with those IG Units that passed they type tests. In other words, a manufacturer will declare how units are made and must implement procedures to ensure that the IG Units are always made in that way.

Ulmke Metals offers a free EN 1279 Factory Production Control System. The system covers all aspects of the standard and is both simple to understand and to implement. Ulmke even offer support to upgrade any system to the popular BSI Kitemark or the BM Trada Q mark. Both these systems are said to be satisfactory to the NHBC and require third party surveillance of operations.

Throughout the year Ulmke will audit, again free of charge, the FPC to ensure continuing compliance and will manage the arrangements for periodic testing. This is a compliance management service.

Ulmke Metals urges IGU manufacturers that have passed the type test to arrange periodic testing through Ulmke Metals as soon as possible to ensure continuing compliance.
